Warm beer with Wet Leg!
As the band celebrate their sophomore album release, we're excited to share some beer we've made for them.
Wet Leg - the Isle of Wight five-piece founded by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – have today released their eagerly anticipated second album moisturizer. It’s a great record that takes everything good about their eponymous debut LP and somehow turns the dial up. Easier said than done! They also seem to be leaning into their weird side, which is something we can always get onboard with. Listen to moisturizer, here.
So where do we come in? Well, about a week ago, we got a call from one of our friends at their record label Domino saying that the band had mentioned they wanted their own beer at an album launch party they are doing (details are below!) to celebrate its release. We love the opportunity to work with great artists, and have done so for the likes of Squid, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Wu Lyf and Hayden Thorpe recently. So naturally, we thought it was a great idea, but was it feasible? We didn’t need to consult the calendar to know we were up against it time-wise, but decided it was too good an opportunity to pass up on so, a few more (increasingly panicked) phone calls later, we decided to say “yes” and work it out from there.
Our printers kindly agreed to pop the job on the top of some pile, so we got our designer Eddy to work late (sorry and thank you), and as luck would have it we had some fresh pale ale that was tasting banging and ready for canning in a few days so we were good on that side. A bit of back and forth with the band and we settled on a beer label that is every bit bizarre as it is beautiful, about 5 minutes after our deadline with the printers. All was well though, they’re a nice bunch.
So why is it called “warm beer”? Although some folk from outside of the UK apparently think it’s how we enjoy our ale, we generally see it as a turnoff. What they’re talking about, I think, is what we call cellar temperature and it’s just for our cask offering and still tends to be around 10-12°C. Anyway, the reason this is called “warm beer” is because it’s a lyric lifted from their smash hit “Chaise Longue”, the kind of song that can propel a band from a grotty rehearsal room to the Pyramid Stage in double quick time.
“Are you coming backstage after the show? Because I've got a chaise longue in my dressing room And a pack of warm beer that we can consume”
We also have a very small amount of “warm beer” (keeping cool in our new cool room - more of which anon) available via our webshop, so there are two ways of snagging yourself this incredibly exclusive product. One would be to head to Hackney Furniture tomorrow, and who knows, you might meet the band! The other would be to get on our webshop quick sharp and place your order. We really do only have a few cases of this and when it’s gone, it’s gone!
